The world athletics award committee has nominated TOBI AMUSAN in the Women World Athlete of the Year category making her the First Nigerian ever to receive the nomination following her win at the world championships 100meter hurdles in 2022.
Amusan became the first Nigerian world champion in an athletics event when she won championships 100 meters hurdles in the year 2022, setting the current world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinal, followed up by a wind-assisted 12.06 seconds in the final winning a gold medal.
This world record has put Tobi Amusan on the world map and also this has given her a whole lot of recognition in places that matter such as the world athletics awards 2022.
She is also the African champion and record holder after retaining her title in Mauritius in June.
