Erik ten Hag 'favours signing three forwards' ahead of Man Utd target Joao Felix

Image
Published by: Quam Shonibare Omotayo Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has identified the trio of forwards he would prefer to sign over Atletico Madrid man Joao Felix in the upcoming transfer window. Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix was once deemed the hottest prospect in European football, but nowadays he doesn't even make the top three of Erik ten Hag's transfer wish-list. The Manchester United boss is keen to bolster his attacking options, particularly in light of Cristiano Ronaldo's latest temper tantrum throwing further doubt on whether the 37-year-old will remain at the club beyond January.  The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has grown tired of being seen as surplus to requirements in the eyes of Ten Hag. Their relationship hit a new low last week when Ronaldo refused to come on during the last knockings of the 2-0 home win over Tottenham and instead chose to storm down the Old Trafford...

"I will deal with Cristiano Ronaldo later"- Erik Ten Hang.

Image
Published by:  Habeeb Abdulazeez Babatunde Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he will "deal with" Cristiano Ronaldo after the unused substitute walked down the tunnel minutes before the end of the win over Tottenham. Ronaldo, 37, left in the 89th minute, shortly after Ten Hag brought on Christian Eriksen and Anthony Elanga. "I will deal with that tomorrow, not today. We are now celebrating this victory," said Ten Hag. "I have seen him, but I haven't spoken with him." Despite United having only made three of their five permitted substitutions in Wednesday's 2-0 home win, Ronaldo decided to leave the bench early and disappeared down the Old Trafford tunnel. It came three days after he showed his displeasure at being substituted against Newcastle. After Sunday's 0-0 draw Ten Hag said he had "no problem" with Ronaldo's negative reaction, but added the Portuguese must convince him "he has to stay on". For...

Erik ten Hag: Manchester United does not want his season disrupted by players' contract talks.

Image
Published by: Rohimot Ishola Oluwadamilola Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag does not want his season disrupted by contract talks, even though 12 members of his squad could leave for free next summer. Key players like David de Gea, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo have options to extend those deals by an additional year. Ten Hag said the club has to focus on "performances, not on negotiating". The Old Trafford club have traditionally triggered contract extensions as a matter of course in an attempt to protect player values. However, while some, like Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, could be released immediately with no effect on the first-team given how rarely they have been available, others are important figures at the club. Goalkeeper De Gea and forward Rashford fall into the latter category, while full-backs Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw would be expensive to replace. And then there is Ronaldo, who is almost certain to be the subject of more rumours about a...

He hit Finnish opponent Helenius flush in the face from his famous right hand with seconds left in the opening round. "It was a great night," said Wilder. "I had to take my time. I was making him reach. I wanted to be mobile, agile and hostile. I set him up, allowed him to reach and then when he reached, I attacked." He added: "We wanted to make this fun again. You can do this so long it can be a job, just something you are doing. We made it fun. It paid off big time." Victory over Helenius, his former sparring partner, at Barclays Center improved Wilder's record to 43-2 with one draw a...

I want to cry" - Martinez explains why he was emotional after beating Tottenham.

Image
Published By: Oluwapelumi Olagunju. Lisandro Martinez said the Manchester United supporters' chants of 'Argentina' nearly brought him to tears during the win over Tottenham at Old Trafford. United signed Martinez from Ajax during the summer transfer window and the centre-back has quickly become a favourite among supporters after silencing critics who doubted whether he could play in the Premier League. Martinez helped United keep another clean sheet on Wednesday night in the Reds' 2-0 win against Tottenham and he was emotional when interviewed after the match, explaining that it meant so much for him to have the opportunity to play for the club. "To be honest, it’s very emotional for me because I’m at one of the best clubs in the world," Martinez told MUTV. Jota OUT of World Cup for Portugal after picking up injury against City.

Image
Published By: Fredrick Alabi. Diogo Jota is OUT of the World Cup for Portugal after the injury he picked up for Liverpool against Manchester City. Diogo Jota will miss the 2022 World Cup. The injury contracted in the final stretch of the game with Manchester City, last Sunday, will not be resolved in time for the player to integrate Fernando Santos' squad for the competition that starts on November 20, in Qatar. The 25-year-old Portuguese international underwent an MRI and, although the results have not yet been released, BOLA knows that the break time will be longer than a month, completely ruling out the possibility of Diogo Jota being called to represent Portugal in the World Championship. Diogo Jota, it should be noted, has 29 caps for Portugal, having scored 10 goals.

I WILL NOT FEEL SORRY FOR MYSELF- GERRARD.

Image
Published By:Habeeb Abdulazeez Babatunde Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard says he will not "feel sorry for myself" as he looks to steer the club away from the Premier League relegation zone. Gerrard is under increasing pressure with Villa sitting 16th in the table having won just two games this season. The former Liverpool midfielder was jeered after Villa's defeat by Chelsea on Sunday, but he insists he has "total trust" in himself and his players. "The outcome was a defeat but we'll take the positives," said Gerrard. Appointed as Dean Smith's successor last November, Gerrard led Villa to Premier League safety but the club's fanbase has grown increasingly disgruntled this season after just two wins this term. After beating Southampton on 16 September, Villa drew with fellow strugglers Leeds United and Nottingham Forest before losing to Chelsea having found Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in inspired form. Wilshere, Walcott Failed To Utilise Their Potentials –Gallas

Image
Published By: Beatrice Jimoh and Yetunde Alade Former Arsenal captain William Gallas has revealed that the duo of Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere have failed to utilise their full potentials in the round leather game. The Frenchman was impressed by the talent shown by Walcott and Wilshere at an early age, but feels both did not reach their potential. Gallas claims the media put too much pressure on Walcott, 33, to become a world class player, and suggests the weight of expectation was difficult for the winger to deal with as a youngster.

Onuachu reveals reason for recent form

Image
Published By:Beatrice Jimoh and Yetunde Alade.   The Nigerian striker struggled to score goals at the beginning of the season, but he has been on fire for about a month. Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has revealed that his goalscoring run is a result of consistent training and hardwork. Onuachu had a torrid start to the season at Genk. After suffering an injury days before the Jupiler League started, the Nigerian hitman returned to action in game week 3. Upon his return, Onuachu failed to score in six consecutive games for the Limburgers. However, all that is past now, as the FC Ebedei product has hit six in his last four games for the Smurfs. Onuachu netted a brace for Genk in their 6-1 drubbing of Westerlo on Tuesday, and he explained that the result was down to the quality and work rate of him and his teammates. “Everyone did their job and knew what they had to do in the game against Westerlo,” Onuachu told Sporza as per Walfoot. “It’s not correct to say that our ...

Aaron Rodgers attempts to clarify his comments on the Packers' offensive struggles

Published by: Mathew Afuwape Damilare  Aaron Rodgers believes better execution will help the Packers' After a somewhat surprising loss to the New York Jets Sunday that dropped the Green Bay Packers to 3-3, Aaron Rodgers said he believed a simpler offense could help the struggling offense. Before losing to the Jets, the Packers lost to the New York Giants 27-22 and failed to score in the second half.  "And that’s why we need to simplify things because, on the couple drives that we did move the ball, it was very simple things. Very simple plays, no motion," Rodgers said of the offense Sunday. On Tuesday, during Rodgers' weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers tried to clarify those comments.

Liverpool 1-0 West Ham: Darwin Nunez scores his first Anfield goal for Reds.

Image
Published by: Wasiu Zakariya Babatunde Darwin Nunez scored his first Anfield goal for Liverpool and Alisson saved a penalty as the Reds defeated West Ham in an incident-packed encounter. Nunez had already gone close with a rasping attempt when he rose to meet Kostas Tsimikas' cross and plant a downward header beyond the reach of Lukasz Fabianski. The busy Nunez was presented with a chance to double the lead moments later but this time Fabianski was able to save before the Hammers were awarded a penalty after Joe Gomez's foul on Jarrod Bowen. Bowen picked himself up to take it but Alisson produced a fine diving save in front of the Kop to ensure Liverpool backed up their excellent win over Manchester City on Sunday with another three points.

Brentford vs Chelsea: Stalemate in west London.

Image
Published by: Wasiu Zakariya Babatunde Graham Potter’s unbeaten start at Chelsea continues although this west London derby proved to be one of the most difficult games so far under his management. The match ended 0-0 and it will be Brentford counting more missed opportunities than their local visitors from Stamford Bridge, whose best attempts at goal were a Kai Havertz shot in the second half that was kept out fairly comfortably, and a more difficult one to stop at the very end from Carney Chukwuemeka. The home side certainly had the better of the first half without scoring. Again the Blues were grateful for Kepa’s current form when the Spaniard kept out two Bees’ headers, with threats at the other end few and far between. Substitutions in the second half did give the Chelsea attacking play more impetus, with young Chukwuemeka in particular looking sharp on the ball, but still shots-on-target proved scarce until the very end and as a result, for the first...

Man Utd 2-0 Tottenham: Fred and Bruno Fernandes score as Erik ten Hag's team impress in deserved victory.

Image
Published by: Wasiu Zakariya Babatunde. Manchester United produced a thrilling attacking performance to deservedly defeat Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford. Fred's opener was deflected in off Ben Davies early in the second half before Bruno Fernandes added a second as shots rained in on the Tottenham goal. This was surely the best performance by United since Erik ten Hag arrived at the club in the summer. Antonio Conte's side needed only a point to move above Manchester City into second but they were outplayed for much of the game. Indeed, Spurs had captain Hugo Lloris to thank for staying in it as long as they did - and then keeping the score down. While the result means Spurs stay third and United retain fifth spot ahead of Newcastle, the trajectory of the two teams feels rather different after such a convincing display. Even if Cristiano Ronaldo did not feel a part of it. The veteran walked off down the tunnel late in the game having not been brought on a...

Courtois wins 2022 Yashin award.

Image
Published by: Michael Godwin.  Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has won the 2022 Yashin award, which names the world’s best goalkeeper for the 2021-2022 season. Courtois was historically great last year and was also named the MVP in the Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Liverpool, so this award is as obvious as it gets. It’s true that the panel of voters only considered Courtois the seventh best goalkeeper last year and that he deserved way better than that, but this time he wasn’t snubbed. The Belgian goalkeeper is currently out treating some pain on his sciatica nerve, but he was able to travel to Paris and collect the award. Courtois should be back with the team soon, which will only help Real Madrid as he’s still in his prime. Courtois is 30 years old and should have some good years of football left in the tank, so if Real Madrid keep succeeding and he keeps performing at a high level, this might not be the only time he wins a Yashin award.

Robert Lewandowski sends friendly warning to Erling Haaland about Man City goals haul.

Image
Published by: Rohimot Ishola Oluwadamilola. Robert Lewandowski has sent a reminder to Erling Haaland that he might not be a shoo-in for next year’s Best Striker award at the Ballon d’Or. The Gerd Muller trophy is handed to the attacker who has impressed most over the last year and Monday was the second time Lewandowski had picked up the accolade. The Poland great netted 57 times last season in all, 50 of them for Bayern Munich. The 34-year-old has scored 14 times in 13 outings for new club Barcelona this season, something that has largely been overlooked due to Haaland’s epic return for Manchester City. The 22-year-old blanked against Liverpool in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat but has already hit 20 goals for the season, doing so in just 12 games. He is unsurprisingly being tipped for the Premier League golden boot and could well finish top scorer in Europe. Chelsea hero Didier Drogba cheekily reminded Lewandowski of Haaland ’s amazing start to the season when the Barcelona star pick...

The 24-year-old, who joined Brighton from RB Salzburg in 2021, has been informed that to continue playing competitive sport would put him at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event. "We are all absolutely devastated for Enock," club chairman Tony Bloom told the club's official website. "He and his family have had a traumatic few weeks and while we are just thankful he has come through that period, he has seen such a promising career cut short at such a young age. Published by: Christian Ugwu Oluchi Zimbabwe lost a warm-up game against Sri Lanka at the famed Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday. Zimbabwe's cricketers have been urged to seize their chance at the T20 World Cup, with their coach saying his team have every chance of upsetting some of the tournament's more fancied sides. Appearing at their first global tournament in six years, the Africans face Ireland, the West Indies and Scotland in their first-round group in Australia. Only the top two will progress to the Super 12 stage of the competition, and Zimbabwe head into their opener on Monday ranked above both European sides in Group B. "It's unrealistic to think we're going to go on and win this World Cup," coach Dave Houghton told BBC Sport Africa. "But the great fun about being in these World Cups is the ability to upset some of the big dogs." The momentum that Houghton has now built as coach after a few difficult years could give the sid...

SPORTS JARGON

Published by: Adebiyi Yetunde Abimbola The world of sports terminology is a fascinating one. There are terms that are self-explanatory (double dribble, jump ball, three-point line, goal, kickoff), terms that have pretty obvious or intuitive origins (field goal, “taking a charge,” free throw, play action), and there are terms that are just plain weird. Alley-Oop The term “alley-oop” seems a bit random right? It turns out its origin is in the phrase “Allez hop!” from French, which was what a circus acrobat would yell before attempting a leap so that everyone else would clear out of the way. This is now the second good thing France has contributed to modern life, after Bordeaux wine of course. It was popularized in the 1950s in practices by players like Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain who would apparently judge a teammate’s shot trajectory to be missing the hoop, and instead, jump in the air, catch their errant shot, and slam it down. Teammates were pissed but it was worth i...

Kadewere suffered yet another injury setback after suffering a quadriceps injury in his right leg ahead of his debut for Real Mallorca. The Zimbabwe international had a couple of weeks earlier joined Mallorca on a season-long loan transfer from French outfit Lyon.
